Branson, MO, June, 2010 – Professional musicians and singers will meet and judge a host of talented aspiring performers at the 2010 Colgate Country Showdown – America’s Largest Country Music Talent Search and Radio promotion of the season! Sponsored by KHOZ 102.9, the 29th annual event will kick-off on Friday, June 11th at 5PM in front of Branson Landing’s famed fountain area in town square. “Our radio promotion garnered over thirty entries this year, stated KHOZ Station Manager, Marilyn Wallis and we’re so excited about our seven very talented finalists; Jaclyn North, Gwendlyn Kay, Liz Moriondo, Ashlee Choate, Shelley Luginsland, Kyla Horton and The Cliff Hudson Band.” Clay Cooper, Master of Ceremonies will wow spectators as he and his group, The Country Music Express Band not only perform, but also provide the accompaniment for each contestant. Clay Cooper has been a local favorite for many years in Branson and performs nightly, a high-energy show full of great singing, dancing, comedy and much more at his new signature venue – the Clay Cooper Theater, located on Highway 76’s Country Music Boulevard. For the past 28 years, the Colgate Country Showdown has served as a platform for amateur country music artists to launch their professional careers and again this year, judges from the entertainment industry will COLGATE COUNTRY SHOWDOWN BACK IN TOWN… page two 6/08/10 determine which contestant has “what it takes” to move on to the state competition. Famed Branson entertainers, Barbara Fairchild, Buck Trent and Paul Harris will serve as judges, as well as recording artist Marlon Hargis from the hit-making group EXILE and Heather Shelly, the 2005 National Colgate Country Showdown Winner. This year, Tammy Scholten, Director of Marketing and Entertainment for Branson Landing was asked to join the panel of judges, stating, “We are thrilled to have the competition back at Branson Landing and it is truly an honor for me to be involved with the judging of this year’s Colgate Country Showdown and to have the opportunity to work alongside some of Branson’s amazing stars!” The talent and excitement will continue into the weekend with a free LIVE performance on Saturday, June 12th at 8PM featuring the legendary, award-winning band, EXILE. With an explosive career spanning over three decades, this late 70’s/80’s icon band achieved worldwide success with the #1 pop smash, “Kiss You All Over.” They then made a seamless transition from pop to country in the early 1980’s with, “Woke Up In Love” peaking at #1 in early 1984, followed by nine consecutive #1 singles, including “I Don’t Want to Be A Memory”, “Give Me One More Chance”, She’s A Miracle”, “Crazy For Your Love”, “Hang On To Your Heart”, “I Could Get Used To You”, “It’ll Be Me”, “She’s To Good To Be True” and “I Can’t Get Close Enough”. Combining achievements in pop and country with success, EXILE earned eleven #1 singles, numerous top 10 singles, three gold albums, several multi-platinum singles and thirteen nominations from the Academy of Country Music and the Country Music Association.
